An audio chat 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at the Christian Science Reading Room will discuss “Healing mental illness, depression, and anxiety.” Since the attack on a school in Newtown, Conn. by a young man with mental problems, more and more people are thinking about how to help individuals who suffer from mental illness.

Questions abound about interim swim coach benefits

Several residents were on hand during Thursday’s North Whidbey Park and Recreation District meeting questioning the money provided to the interim swim coach for several months.
A resident attending the public meeting before the five-member elected board was concerned that the vouchers showed the interim coach, Steve Wicher, received more than $2,800 on top of his salary and there were concerns the park district was subsidizing his rent.

It's still early in the conference season, but the Oak Harbor High School softball team likes where it is sitting right now.
With a 5-3 win at Everett Friday, March 29, the Wildcats are now 2-0 in Wesco 3A North play and in first place.
Tour de Whidbey bike race returning in September

What could be better than a peddle-powered tour of Whidbey Island? Enjoying a tour while helping a good cause at the same time.
Tour de Whidbey is a go this year after being canceled in 2012.
It takes place Saturday, Sept. 21 starting at the Greenbank Farm and covering the picturesque parts of Whidbey Island.

The Oak Harbor High School softball team blew a three-run seventh-inning lead and lost 7-4 to visiting Stanwood in eight innings Monday, April 1.

County builds access road for slide victims

Driftwood Way homes marooned by a massive landslide in Ledgewood became accessible by vehicle for the first time in nearly a week Monday.
Island County Public Works road crews began building an emergency, one-lane gravel road Friday. Working through the Easter weekend, they were able to wrap up work at about 3:30 p.m.

Thank you to William Frail for pointing out that politicians “criminally violated their oaths of office by attempting to deprive citizens of their Constitutional rights.”
Our elected politicians in the other Washington continuously and relentlessly attack our Constitution in attempts to deprive us of our Constitutional rights.
A look at almost any news media will show where the attacks lie. The First, Second and Fourth amendments are attacked regularly so politicians can further their own agendas. The president creates laws in violation of the Constitution that stipulates that laws originate in Congress.
