Rick Larsen’s commitment to the future of our country and our ability to defend our shores and our economic future within those shores, and like him, we support Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. We differ, however, in believing there are meaningful ways to mitigate the impacts of Outlying Field on adjacent residents. The noise impacts and significant safety risks can only be realistically solved by finding a new 21st century location for OLF. Such incompatibility is why the naval base in Norfolk recently sought out an appropriate OLF in a relatively undeveloped area in distant Washington County, N.C. Just so, an OLF in an unpopulated area of Washington state should not only be feasible, but would allow NAS Whidbey to function under a far-improved public profile. And, if a new OLF was to be constructed, how many construction jobs for Washington would that involve?

Man charged with threatening to burn Oak Harbor apartment building down
Mar 22 2013, 3:19 PM A 50-year-old Oak Harbor man is facing a felony charge for allegedly standing outside his apartment building while drunk and loudly threatening to burn the building down, according to court records. Prosecutors charged Roger Del Sebers in Island County Superior Court March 29 with threats to bomb or injure property. If convicted, he could face from three to nine months in jail under the standard sentencing range. A judge set Sebers’ bail at $5,000 on March 18. He was unable to sign documents in court because his hands were shaking so badly, court records show.

Mar 22 2013, 3:19 PM A 31-year-old Oak Harbor man accused of repeatedly violating a domestic-violence, no-contact order could end up in a state penitentiary, court documents indicate. Prosecutors charged William W. Blue in Island County Superior Court with two counts of felony violation of a court order. Under state law, a violation of a court order becomes a felony if the offender has two previous convictions.
