Oak Harbor managed to miss the freak snowstorm, but Central and South Whidbey bared the brunt. Many drivers, including a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office and a South Whidbey Record reporter, had trouble staying on the snowy roads.
Oak Harbor City Council rejects mayor’s choice for city attorney
Mar 23 2013, 10:26 AM The rejection of the Oak Harbor mayor’s appointment for city attorney has left the city without a permanent city attorney and few, if any, prospects for filling the position in the future. In the meantime, the mayor and council members are blaming each other for getting into this situation, which may lead to higher legal bills in the long run and a lack of stability in the attorney’s office. Mayor Scott Dudley said the council’s 5-2 vote to reject the applicant was another in a series of politically motivated decisions aimed at obstructing his authority.

Higman appointed interim Island County planning director

Higman, who also leads the Department of Natural Resources, will shepherd the planning department until a permanent replacement for Director Bob Pederson can be selected. Pederson submitted a letter of resignation earlier this month.
