Mar 20 2013, 11:26 AM My grandparents had a home for many years on Goldie Road. They moved there from a large home in downtown Oak Harbor that subsequently became a doctor’s office. On many occasions, as an adult, I would sit in the waiting room of that doctor’s office with my son trying to remember where things used to be located — trying to square in my mind the old family photos with the current layout of the building. Of one thing I am certain, my grandparents’ house didn’t have any examining rooms or a front counter.

Hundreds of people showed their Irish pride when they donned their green and watched the St. Patrick’s Day parade Saturday that rolled through downtown Oak Harbor. The light-hearted affair, organized each year by the Irish Wildlife Society, featured an award winning bagpiper, Lynden-based Beau Lindsey, who performed along the parade route behind two color guards –- one from Oak Harbor High School’s NJROTC unit and from MATSG-53.

Rick Abraham served the port for six months as a volunteer on a committee to review the management of Greenbank Farm. During that time he visited the port office many times to talk with Port Director Jim Patton and review port records.

The 21-year-old woman was driving a Nissan 240SX south on West Beach Road near Even Down when a Ford SUV collided with her, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The driver left the scene prior to police arriving. - Photo by Leo Scarpelli Mar 19 2013, 4:25 PM Oak Harbor police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who left a car behind after driving into a building. Police Chief Ed Green said a security guard at the Skagit Valley College campus in Oak Harbor found the red 1978 Datson 280Z partially through the wall of the bookstore early Saturday morning. Green said the car was abandoned and investigators have no leads. There was no indication that anyone was injured.
