Seagull saga finally appears over at Whidbey Coffee

Leah Norton-Gaudreau tried everything.
She scattered bird seed. Tossed dog bones. Anything to try to deflect attention from the pastries at the drive-through window.
But this seagull, already accustomed to the finer things in life, saw no reason to alter its dining habits now.
“You’d see feathers flapping and he’d grab a pastry,” Norton-Gaudreau said.

A 44-year-old Coupeville man is facing a felony charge for allegedly pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend’s head and threatening to kill her, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Nicholas Burnett in Island County Superior Court March 6 with second-degree assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Former Oak Harbor school janitor charged with possessing child porn

A former substitute janitor for the Oak Harbor School District was arrested earlier this month for possessing child pornography, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged 42-year-old Clinton E. Shell in Island County Superior Court March 8 with four counts of first-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Oak Harbor schools Superintendent Rick Schulte said Shell only worked for five days over the 2012 Christmas vacation, so he had no interaction with students. Shell’s name was taken off the substitute list and he will no longer be able to work for the district.

I would like to thank Dave Hayes and Norma Smith for joining with the other 68 members of the State House of Representatives who overwhelmingly passed House Bill 1817, the state “Dream Act,” which allows resident funding for more high school graduates who intend to attend college.
Sen. Barbara Bailey indicated that she will find a spot on her Higher Education Committee calendar and reportedly said, “It is worth a discussion.”
