Port commission to talk Greenbank Farm future

The cow’s owner, Diane Schneider, said farmhand Javier Meja came across the track and photographed it with his cell phone.
Oak Harbor schools to start planning strategy for using levy funds
Mar 01 2013, 3:08 PM While voters approved a measure that essentially doubled Oak Harbor School District levy, about half of those extra dollars will be available for the next school year. Oak Harbor school officials are figuring out what parts of the levy to implement. The Oak Harbor School District typically receives its tax dollars two times a year.

Detective Ed Wallace said the three masked men – or possibly women – entered the Freeland Shell station, commonly known as the Shell Shack, by forcing open the drive-through window at about 3 a.m. Feb. 19. Wallace released images captured by the store’s surveillance video Monday in hopes someone will be able to help identify the culprits.

North Whidbey motorcycle accident injures Renton man
Mar 05 2013, 4:25 PM A Renton man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday on East Silver Lake Road on North Whidbey. Joel Crouch, 27, suffered head injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and Hospital in Seattle. A hospital official confirmed Tuesday that he was out of intensive care and in satisfactory condition.

Greenbank Farm hires new trainer
Jessica Babcock was named training director at the Greenbank Farm’s organic farm school. - Nathan Whalen/Whidbey News-Times Mar 05 2013, 4:24 PM Greenbank Farm Management Group hired a new farmer trainer straight from corn country. The management group named Jessica Babcock as the training director of the Organic Farm School, which has been breaking in new farmer for the past several years. She replaces Sabastian Aguilar, who will help administer the farm on a contract basis. Aguilar moved to Oregon to start a farm. Babcock comes to the Greenbank Farm from Decorah, Iowa, where she worked for the Seed Savers Exchange, a nonprofit organization striving to preserve heirloom seeds. She said the exchange is the largest non-governmental seed bank in the United States.
