The real danger to the public and our children are those among us who advocate disarmament.
These individuals have no moral equivocation with their actions for they do so with the approval of their own twisted sense of compassion.
That they have blood dripping from their hands is of no concern to them. It is more important that they feel good concerning their efforts to protect the children and the public.

A recent contributor to your paper stated that if a person cannot rely on the police and military for protection, he should move to another country.
As one who spent four decades in the military, many as a military police officer, I have a slightly opposing view.

This is in response to Ronald Cope’s letter of Jan. 12.
Your impressive education aside, how dare you speak for me or others by stating that “firearms are an unacceptably dangerous and inefficient means to protect ourselves or our families.”
That statement is preposterous on its face. Rarely does law enforcement stop a crime in progress.
Island chapter Red Cross is looking for real heroes.

Oak Harbor Music and Jazz Festival gearing up, help wanted

Oak Harbor Music and Jazz Festival is gearing up for the 2013 music festival Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
The festival has restructured under the name of Oak Harbor Music Festival and has a Board of Trustees composed of the key volunteers from the 2012 festival.
Those involved will begin meeting to organize committees, start fundraising and establish contracts with bands.

The safety risk to carrier-based aircraft squadrons would increase significantly if Navy pilots weren’t able to practice at Coupeville’s Outlying Field.
That’s according to Executive Officer of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 135, Cmdr. Adam Carlstrom, who addressed members of the Oak Harbor Area Council of the Navy League Tuesday at the Officers’ Club on Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
