Oak Harbor City Council can’t just ignore state law | Letters
Jan 04 2013, 4:08 PM
I read with great interest your story, “Oak Harbor takes a stab at gun regulation.” I must ask this question. If I, John Havercroft, merely a regular citizen declared publicly that I did not care what state law prohibited, that obeying that state law made me uncomfortable and I had no intention of obeying that state law, would a story about me be worded the same?
Give purpose to life in new year | Faithful Living
Jan 04 2013, 4:08 PM
I like the turn of a new year and one of my first steps is to renew my commitment to schedule time each day for personal study and prayer. This year I own a Kindle Fire HD and this wondrous tablet has become my go-to gadget to keep me organized and in touch. Rather than purchase devotional guides I have downloaded the free YouVersion Bible application, which offers the Bible in many languages and translations, note taking options, scores of study plans and devotions, live chat, background information and the ability to share what you’re studying and thinking should you want to do that using social medias.

Disappointed in Oak Harbor councilman’s vote | Letters
Jan 04 2013, 4:12 PM
I read with deep concern the article about Oak Harbor Councilman Jim Campbell voting against gun regulations for Oak Harbor parks. Knowing him to be a man of integrity and courage, or thought he was up to this point, I would have expected much better from him.
Instead, we get the name-calling and intransigence.
Oak Harbor School District marks 100 years
Jan 04 2013, 4:12 PM
Viewing the bustling Oak Harbor High School, the two middle schools and five elementary schools, each with dozens of classrooms outfitted with technology and parking lots full of cars, it’s hard to imagine that the first Oak Harbor school consisted of just one room without electricity.

There are all kinds of advantages to using native plants in landscaping and the Whidbey Island Conservation District is making native species more accessible.
