Pioneer Way hosts magical night

It was a magical night on Pioneer Way Saturday.
Hundreds, possibly thousands, of people gathered in downtown Oak Harbor to celebrate the start of the holiday season.
Holiday Magic on Pioneer Way raised an estimated $1,000 for charity and brought out record crowds, according to Brian Jones, event planner.
Deputy lawsuit cites sick pay violations

The Island County Deputy Sheriff’s Guild has filed a second lawsuit against the county, this time over workers’ compensation and sick pay.
Oak Harbor attorney Chris Skinner filed the complaint for improperly withheld wages, declaratory judgment and permanent injunction in Skagit County Superior Court Nov. 19. The lawsuit names the guild and four deputies as plaintiffs.

Oak Harbor sewage treatment plant could impact business

It appears that Oak Harbor’s new sewage treatment facility will be built somewhere near Pioneer Way, in the vicinity of Windjammer Park, but there’s no guarantee officials will find a willing seller.
The Oak Harbor City Council voted on a resolution last month that limits the possible sites for the proposed $93.5-million facility to the “vicinity of Windjammer” and specifically rules out the “Freund property” that Mayor Scott Dudley had touted.
