Bakke keeps an eye on Olympia

Phil Bakke will help plead Island Countys numerous cases as he serves on the Washington State Association of Counties Legislative Steering Committee.The freshman county commissioner will join 36 colleagues from 30 counties in Olympia every two weeks during the duration of the 60-day legislative session that began Monday.
Bakke said the committee is responsible for bringing forward issues that most affect county citizens. The group is a bi-partisan melting pot comprised of representatives from both rural and urban jurisdictions.

I read with interest the article by Jim Larsen, Party declaration required to vote, in the Jan. 16 Whidbey News-Times.I didnt really know who I should send this to. So this seems like a good place to start. Besides, I would like to know how others feel about this.
The Supreme Court ruled that open primaries are unconstitutional. Well so is asking a person if they are gay.
School district unfair to workers

I am personally asking and inviting any school board member to attend scheduled meetings which have now broken down to the point that a mediator is needed. Please take the time to care and listen with your own ears as to what our issues are:
Marathon change is a money grab

In response to the change of the Whidbey Marathon and Half Marathon race (News-Times, Jan. 12) which plans to skip Coupeville this year: I am so disappointed to see that Coupeville will not be the final destination of this race. My daughter from San Francisco and my sister from San Mateo, Calif., and friends have been walking this event for the last two years and we were making it a happening event and challenge for our family.Since we live in Coupeville, it was a wonderful end to the race; the last several miles down Madrona were so peaceful and serene that you never thought for one minute you were not going to make it. We went to Tobys for lunch afterwards.

There was a prominent player missing from the article announcing Jay Turner as the new Oak Harbor High School football coach last Saturday. That player was Chris Valencia.
