"Two fun-filled berry festivals will celebrate Whidbey Island’s berry harvest this weekend. On Saturday the Very Berry Festival at the Coupeville Farmers Market will feature a taste of fresh berries and berry products, and the Greenbank Farm Loganberry Festival will feed and entertain visitors with live entertainment on Saturday and Sunday.At the Coupeville Very Berry Festival, which lasts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can sample fresh berry pies and vote for the best one. A food pavilion will feature pie, pie a la mode, fresh fruit compote, strawberry shortcake, hot dogs and lemonade. Vendors will offer T-shirts, hats, the Very Berry Cookbook, fresh berries, frozen berries, berry plants and berry syrups from over twenty different berries commonly eaten in western Washington. Other events include a bake sale, pony rides and carriage rides. Those with luck can buy a $1 raffle ticket and hope to win an $800 three nights/four days trip to Victoria, British Columbia or a second prize of a whale watching trip out of Anacortes. A new person every hour will win a free berry pie.The Greenbank Farm Loganberry Festival, which started out as a harvest celebration, is now a big party that includes live entertainment, ponyrides, children’s arena, specialty food, unique handcrafts, flavorful wines and loganberry pies. The fun starts at 10 a.m and ends at 6 p.m. on both days this weekend.Junkyard Jane and Swamp Mama Johnson headline the diverse list of free entertainment that includes music, pie-eating contests, antique cars and storytelling. The Loganberry Festival is one of the premier events of the year at the 522-acre farm, which became became a living historic farm, agricultural park and community center owned by the citizens of Island County and run by the Greenbank Farm Management Group on Sept. 15, 1997.The farm, which is located on Highway 525 at Wonn Road, is sandwiched between Admiralty Inlet and a view of the Olympics to the West and Saratoga Passage and a view of the Cascades to the east. At the Loganberry Festival Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visit the Farm online at for additions or changes to the entertainment schedule.
