Spouses also serve country

C. Gilbert of Burlington (Letters, June 16), you are so terribly wrong when you say our military spouses do not serve our country. We serve by being both mom and dad to a child whose parent is fighting. We take care of our service member’s business and family matters so that they can train often times away from home more often than they are home.

We serve when they are severely wounded and we care for them for the rest of their lives, we serve when we bury our husband, or wife and the parent of our children in the ground.

You, C. Gilbert, should be ashamed of your view of the spouses who take care of the homefront and give our service members peace of mind while they fight for our country and pay the heartbreaking price of a wounded or fallen spouse!
