Monday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m., St. Augustine’s-in-the Woods Episcopal church in Freeland will host the seventh annual Whidbey Island Martin Luther King, Jr. “Blessed be the Peace Makers” event. St. Augustine’s is located at 5217 Honey Moon Bay Road, Freeland. The service will be preceded by complimentary sandwiches at noon.

The featured speaker will be Ora Houston from Austin, Texas. Houston’s focus has been “giving voice to people who are not invited to the table and protecting the rights of all who are forced to the margins of our community.”

The service will feature interactive readings of the “Freedom Rides” of 1961 and music of Movement. Karl Olsen will lead the singing.

Child care will be provided.
