Pint sized horses wow the country

For the past 10 years, Linda and Pat McGinnis have participated in the American Miniature Horse Registry National Show.

Their performance in last month’s show, however, was the best they and their horses have done.

The pint-sized horses captured 40 titles during the two-week show held in early September in Tulsa, Okla., and then again two weeks later at the world show held in Dallas.

“We did incredibly well,” Linda said, highlighting Pat’s Amateur High Point award at nationals. He competed against 2,000 other exhibitors on his way to winning the prestigious title.

In the national event, Pat and Linda competed in the 38-inch-and-under category and, in the world event, their horses competed in the 34-inch-and-under category.

They brought seven horses with them to the shows. Joining the couple were Royal Redbirds Tyke, R and B Champagne and Lace, Limerick Preconceived Motion, Nashville’s Codename Red Tango, Limerick Simply Awesome, Limerick’s Vegas Nights, and Limerick’s Vegas Winnings.

Pat and Linda raise around 17 miniature horses at their home southwest of Oak Harbor.

They formerly raised large horses but fell in love with the smaller ones and switched to the miniatures about 13 years ago.

The tiny horses are a popular attraction at local parades and children’s camps.

Linda said she enjoys working with children who are suffering from developmental disabilities and watching how they successfully interact with the miniature horses.

“It’s a way for them to get a taste of success,” Linda said.
