Mary Ellen O’Connor is PENN COVE GALLERY’S featured artist for the month of August. O’Connor will discuss her work and give demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the gallery. O’Connor is a silversmith who uses epoxy resin inlays to create colorful wildlife designs on jewelry, belt buckles, bracelets, boxes and knife handles. www.maryellenoconnor.com

ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY presents “Reflections: A Life in Motion,” a series of paintings by Anne Belov, through Aug. 29. Belov’s work reflects the inspiration she has gained through her extensive European travels. Belov focuses on the architecture, landscape, light, and people she observes and relishes the art history that abounds there.

Ruth Mattson is the OAK HARBOR CITY HALL featured artist for August. A retired teacher, Mattson now indulges in her passion for drawing and painting. She uses bright colors and paints with oils, acrylics and watercolors.

Tina Christiansen’s water media paintings and digital illustrations by Eric Vargas are on exhibit at OAK HARBOR LIBRARY in August. The library is located at 1000 SE Regatta Drive, Oak Harbor. Call 360-675-5115 for more information.

The GARRY OAK GALLERY has welcomed Camille Brighten as a guest artist. Brighten’s watercolor paintings will be on display at the gallery through August.

MATTHEW LASLO, who makes his television debut this summer on “Penn and Teller: Fool Us,” will bring his award-winning magic and illusions to the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. “Penn and Teller: Fool Us” is a popular TV series that features some of the world’s finest magicians performing their best tricks in front of a live Las Vegas audience. At 15 years old, Laslo was the youngest performer chosen from hundreds of contenders for a show that airs at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 on the CW network. Laslo’s new show, “Magic Now” is a high-energy act with lots of comedy and audience participation. Advanced tickets are recommended. Photographer John Olsen is PENN COVE GALLERY’S featured artist for September. Olsen will attend the gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. He will discuss his work and methods. Olsen works primarily in black and white. His new work, found in his “Nautical” and “Waterfall” collections, reflects the environment of the Northwest. His “Industrial Glamour” collection reflects his admiration for people who build things that are both functional and graceful. www.johnolsenphoto.com

GARRY OAK GALLERY has welcomed new metal artists Steve and Maryann Nowicki. Each of the artists’ pieces are crafted by hand, with much emphasis on small details. The two are self-taught metal artists, and Steve Nowicki has developed his own metal finishes.
