We need to stand against Trump dictatorship

Editor,

Our current president is profoundly misusing the power and influence of the office American’s have provided him.

By his singling out professional sports figures for attack and publicly instructing NFL owners to fire employees, while cursing them as he does this, he is engaging in egregious, outrageous and unacceptable behaviors as our commander-in-chief. These actions are directly working against democracy and undermining our Constitution. He should be removed from office for engaging in such anti-American activities.

These athletes were vehemently attacked simply for exercising their right to freedom of speech. They should never have been treated like this by the leader of our country. By taking a knee during the national anthem these men were following a centuries old tradition. Kneeling on one bended knee represents respect, honor and humility. People in religious settings bend on one knee before the altar of God. Knights got down on bended knee before their King. For centuries men have gotten down on one knee as a sign of respect for their prospective brides. For our president to attack this respectful, non-violent act to bring attention to racial justice concerns is heinous.

This should be a wake up call to all Americans to remember our fundamental rights and freedoms. Write to the president and tell him this is completely unacceptable behavior.

This is America and we stand for freedom of speech and liberty and justice for all. We are a diverse nation of immigrants from all corners of the globe. This systematic creation of divisions between people living in America is wrong. It is only in countries controlled by dictators that leaders squelch citizens who do not agree with what they want. Americans need to stand up and say “no” to such dictator-like actions.

Trump failed to serve in our military. Instead, he took five draft deferments, one for ‘bone spurs in his feet’ all while he played football, tennis and squash and was taking up golf. Now that is definitely not patriotic.
