Time for Republican women to fill key roles

Editor,

I am fed up with the total lack of diversity in President Donald Trump’s cabinet and sub-cabinet appointees. They are almost all white men. There are a lot of white women who voted for Trump and they deserve representation!

The straw that broke the camel’s back is the selection of State Senators Doug Ericksen and Brian Dansel, who Trump has asked to come to Washington, DC to help him dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency. We have a senator here on Whidbey Island who is better qualified than either of these two men to do this job. Sen. Barbara Bailey has diligently worked for her entire career to defeat any proposals that might protect our environment or preserve our natural resources. In fact, the secretive lobbying association, ALEC, has given tons of money to Barbara Bailey, which they would not have done if they thought that any of her legislative efforts would result in clean air or clean water.

It is time for Republican women to stand up, speak out and act. They need to demand their share of the patronage positions. I am sure there are many people, like myself, who would be most happy to sign a petition to send Barbara Bailey to Washington, D.C.
