Rep. Smith stops by to see what Spin Cafe is all about

Editor,

Three cheers for state Rep. Norma Smith and a big thanks.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, Norma came to Spin Cafe to see what we are about and to see if there might be some funds we can apply for to help this project grow. She has a real heart for this kind of work and it was a pleasure to get to know her.

If you don’t know about Spin Cafe, we are located on Barrington near the Island Transit station. Spin serves meals and offers other services to low income community members.

We have dreams of expanding.

This particular day I was volunteering there as a coordinator of a team from Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. We serve there two times a month with a team of six people.

And how did this come to pass? Well, your shy brother in Christ Bob Wall was at the July 4th parade waiting to drive our convertible for the Whidbey Playhouse. He visited the Democratic parade display that was adjacent to our spot for the Playhouse and when he introduced himself to Norma he asked about grant possibilities for Spin.

That began a conversation via email between myself and her assistant Brad that resulted in Norma joining us last Thursday. Thanks again, Norma Smith.
