Pool time helped reader grow stronger

Editor,

I am Mildred Johanson and I am 72 years young. When I first came to the pool about 10 years ago I walked with a cane, and had for many years.

I also had a back problem so bad before I came to Whidbey Island I had shots in my spine about every three to six months.

I noticed when we started playing volleyball at the pool I was able to play more hours. I did not have to take my pain medication. I also had over-the-counter medications I no longer had to take. One of my doctors told me not to listen to any of my other doctors when they told me I could come to the pool, but not play volleyball.

I have had three doctors tell me the worst things. The best thing I can do for my spine is play volleyball. I not only have gotten off my cane, but I am off my heart medication. I suffer from asthma, but since coming to the pool my lungs are better.

Come play with us and save the pool,

Mildred Johanson
