Letter: Stated cause of death should read, ‘technological overload’

Editor,

I was delighted to read your Nov. 19 Publisher’s Column regarding the swinging pendulum.

I do not Twitter or Tweet, and I refuse to be a part of Facebook. My adult children recently got a smart phone for me thinking it would be a great help.

I’m still trying to figure out how to pick up a message. Do I tap or slide, or is it both? That is, of course, should I actually hear it. I just can’t get in the habit of always having it with me.

Where am I supposed to put it; around my neck? I can’t do that as I usually have my reading glasses there. All my clothes don’t have pockets.

Even if they did I’d probably accidentally make a call each time I sat down. If I just happen to hear it and don’t have my glasses; then I can’t read it.

If the pendulum should swing back, I fear it will be too late for me.

My obituary should read, “She died from frustration, surrounded by her frowning computer, monitor, printer, smart phone, booster and TV remote controls. Cause of death was technological overload.”
