Letter: Please help to re-open city’s swimming pool

Editor,

It’s beyond embarrassing that a city the size of Oak Harbor does not have an available community swimming pool. Well, actually, there is a great pool facility located at 85 S.E. Jerome Street, but it’s been closed due to a failed levy back in November, 2017. That levy was to continue the operation and maintenance of the pool for six more years along with support for ball fields and a dog park. The levy failed by less than 100 votes.

The North Whidbey Pool, Park and Recreation District has put a new levy on this November ballot and a super majority of 60 percent plus 1 is required to pass.

I trust the citizens of Oak Harbor are now aware there is a pool which can benefit everyone of all ages — from toddlers to senior citizens.

Furthermore, I hope and encourage the City of Oak Harbor, Navy, school district, chamber, Rotary and other civic and business organizations to work hard at getting out the vote and to support re-opening the pool.

It was and will be a great addition to the city for all to enjoy.
