Letter: OLF discussion needs to remain in the spotlight

Editor,

I just want to thank Congressman Rick Larsen for writing the Secretary of the Navy to give time for the Advisory Council of Historic Preservation to opine on the fallen Section 106 mitigation process.

I support the Navy’s preferred alternative; I believe the Navy’s chief negotiator Kendall Campbell has conducted herself in good faith, and I value public input. However, I would caution against reopening the public comment period.

The historic council’s intervention was divisive enough, as-is. Furthermore, the very genuine need for our nation’s naval aviators to get the proper field carrier landing practice is literally a matter of life and death.

Noise annoyance and Ebey’s National Historical Reserve? Not so much.
