Letter: Journalists have a difficult path

Editor,

The journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who lived in in Virginia and wrote for the Washington Post, was a prominent Saudi dissident reporter.

On Oct. 2, Khashoggi made the mistake of entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, for personal business, without a thought he would not be safe.

He disappeared.

Odious stories circulated about his fate. The latest report by a Turkish prosecutor alleges that Khashoggi was strangled to death after he entered the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul.

Sadly, a consulate is no longer a safe haven. Turkey came forward with outrage that Khashoggi vanished without a trace.

The world is getting more dangerous and billionaires can take over a newspaper and sway opinion.

Even worse, journalists walk a path of fire and brimstones.
