Editor,
With regard to the dislike of the EA-18G and the noise and using the mindset of “not in my back yard,” I suggest you get over it.
The Growlers are here to stay, and for reasons far beyond your simplistic understanding, the mission — and “touch-and-go” as you refer to them — are essential requirements.
To further deflate your lack of understanding of naval aviation, P-3s and P-8s also do “touch-and-goes.”
“Why? They are not carrier aircraft,” you say.
The training is simply to gain familiarity and experience in the aircraft. Lieutenants junior grade, fresh from T-45 jet training, need time-shooting approaches and to learn the aircraft, P8 or P3.
The same goes for the EA-18G. Truly you should have known, but then again, Wikipedia does not know what experience teaches.
