Letter: Claims of climate change are about making money

Editor,

The Fourth National Climate Assessment recently came out of the U.S. Global Change Research Program. One thing to keep in mind when you read this report is that the people who produced this thing have their jobs and paychecks dependent on it, so be warned.

After reading it, I went to The Heritage Foundation to get a more realistic view. Their assessment came up with four major points:

1. It wildly exaggerates economic costs.

2. It assumes the most extreme (and least likely) climate scenario.

3. It cherry-picks science on extreme weather and misrepresents timelines and causality.

4. Energy taxes are a costly non-solution.

By the way, Todd Meyer at the Washington Policy Center is another excellent resource.

Space limitations prevent expanding these, but the whole article is available at their website. Reading their analysis really deflates all their “research.”

As Barbara said, you need to be a strong skeptic and really look into all sides, but it doesn’t take long to see “climate change” is more about making money and gaining power than anything else.
