Global warming comments not all that convincing

Editor,

Mr. Joe Sheldon’s comments that man is creating global warming are not at all convincing.

He did note that the earth’s oblique (elliptical) orbit around the sun, called the Milankovich Cycle, indicates that the earth’s distance from the sun varies over time and this does adequately explain the cooler and warmer periods on earth; closer-warmer, further-cooler

I am not sure what carbon dioxide levels 800,000 years ago have to do with carbon dioxide levels today, except to say they were less then. So what! And I don’t understand how he arrives at the statement “The current climate change is unrelated to a Milankovitch cycle.” Is it not reasonable to assume that the earth is closer to the sun than normal. And are there any solar flares or similar activity from the sun adding to the warming?

As for Mr. John Palka’s comments, I will give my own “house fire” analogy. 1. Most of mankind around the world wakes up every morning. 2. The sun rises every morning. 3. Therefore, by awakening every morning, mankind causes the sun to rise.

Thank you for the invitation to the Climate Change March on April 29, but I think I’ll pass on that. I don’t want to add to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by driving my car.
