Callison must be removed before he does real damage

Once again, because of who we elect to government positions, we find ourselves having to spend our time watching their every move.

Langley’s Mayor Tim Callison is a case in point when he attempts to suppress the media by charging them for talking to city employees. He apparently has taken to heart Donald Trump’s mantra, “The media is the enemy of the people.”

The media is not the enemy; the enemy is those who attempt to suppress the freedom of the press.

No one likes the media spotlight to shine on themselves or their activities, but Callison’s invoice for $64 sent to the South Whidbey Record (sister newspaper of the Whidbey News-Times) is outrageously wrong in so many ways that one can only view his action as an attempt to control what the media reports.

This is an attack on one of our most important basic freedoms: The freedom to know what’s going on in our local governments. The only course of action for reasonable people is to throw the man out of office before he does real damage. I hope this is exactly what the people of Langley do.
