Chorus brings Christmas to Oak Harbor
December 11, 2009 · 1:55 PM
Sing in the season with the Whidbey Community Chorus annual Christmas concerts.
Whidbey’s largest chorus, under the direction of conductor Chet Hansen, will be singing sacred to secular Christmas classics, including Biebls’ stunning “Ave Maria,” Brahms’ “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place,” and Rutter’s lively “Rejoice and Be Merry.”
With just one performance in Oak Harbor, the choristers are spreading good cheer up and down the Island this season.
The performances will be Sunday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor
The concert is free to the public, but donations are gratefully accepted. Early arrival is advised as seats fill fast when this group performs. The Oak Harbor audience will be treated to selections performed by Oak Harbor High School’s award-winning Harbor Singers and director Darren McCoy.
Conductor and pianist Chet Hansen has been a musical force in the Oak Harbor community for many years. Besides directing and conducting the Whidbey Community Chorus, he is music director at the First United Methodist Church, accompanies the Oak Harbor High School choral program, and maintains a private piano studio where he mentors and teaches many young musicians.
