July 3, 2008 · Updated 8:35 PM
The Celebrate Writing Contest for adults will accept manuscripts from Sept. 26 through Oct. 19 at Whidbey Island branches of Sno-Isle Library System. Whidbey Island residents 18 years of age and older are invited to submit work in poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, life history/memoir and childrens literature.
Whidbey Island Writers Association sponsors the contest to encourage adults on Whidbey Island to develop and share their experiences and stories. All place-winning manuscripts in each category will be displayed in Whidbey Island libraries from Nov. 25 through Dec. 31. All winners will be invited to attend the authors Panel during Whidbey Island Writers Conference March 1, 2003, and will be honored at the authors book signing-reception that evening. A grand prize winner will be awarded a full scholarship to the annual writers conference Feb. 28-March 2, 2003.
Contest rules and entry forms are at Whidbey Island branch libraries in Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Freeland, Langley and Clinton. No entry fee is required for Whidbey Island Writers Association members; a $5 reading fee will be charged for non-members. Membership forms are available with entry contest forms. Membership dues are $10 and support association activities. For more information, call (360) 331-2038; e-mail thereads@whidbey.com
