Music at Meerkerk

"It's becoming a summertime tradition. Top acoustic musicians from around Puget Sound come to Whidbey Island play for two days at Meerkerk Gardens Folk Music Festival.This year's festival is coming up Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5-6. Lunch, soft drinks and Whidbey Island berry pies will be available, or bring your own picnic, says gardens director Kristi O'Donnell, along with a blanket or lawn chair. Here's this year's program:Saturday, Aug. 5: Carolyn Cruso from Seattle on original and traditional hammereddulcimer. Portland duo Kinzel & Hyde play uptown blues with guitar, harmonica and vocals.Stone Circle, a Celto-Scandinavian trio from Seattle perform with harps, flute, fiddle and vocals. Sunday, Aug. 6 Filucy Hootchie Kootchie Band makes music that appeals to families with children. The Tacoma group incorporates guitar, bass, accordion and vocals.3 Leg Torso, a Hungarian-Brazilian trio from Portland performs on violin, cello and accordion. Telynor, a Neo-Renaissance fusion group from Seattle sings and plays hurdy-gurdy, cittern, nykelharpa The festival goes on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days in a grassy natural amphitheater of tall fir trees at Meerkerk Gardens, south of Greenbank.Tickets: adults $7.50 or $12.50 for both days; seniors $5 or $10 for both days; children 5-16, $1, under 5, free.Tickets are available at the door.
