Seeking past ‘Nutcracker’ performers for 20th anniversary

A Nutcracker doll comes to life and battles the evil Rat King and his minions. Clara and her Nutcracker Prince travel to enchanted lands with dancing snowflakes, forest royalty and wondrous creatures.

These are just a few of the magical delights that await to ignite the imagination through the wonder of dance in Whidbey Island Dance Theater’s production of “The Nutcracker.”

“The Nutcracker” runs Friday, Dec. 7 through Sunday, Dec. 16 at the South Whidbey High School Performing Arts Center, located at 5675 S. Maxwelton Road in Langley.

Charlene Brown, artistic director of Whidbey Island Dance Theater, invites all who were involved in the 1991 “Nutcracker” production in any way or performed in the 1992 first year of “Living Room” be a guest at the 20th anniversary “Nutcracker” celebration performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the South Whidbey High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets cost $22 at the door. Advance tickets cost $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for youths. Opening night, Friday, Dec. 7, costs $15 for all seats.

Evening performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Matinee performances are 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
