June 19, 2012 · Updated 1:39 PM

The Whidbey Island Orchestras will present a special summer concert on Saturday, June 30, at Meerkerk Gardens. This will be a daytime concert, from noon until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Admission to Meerkerk Gardens, located in Greenbank, is $10 for adults, with children 15 and under admitted free.

The community orchestra will be playing a wide variety of music by Corelli, Copland, Grieg, Dvorak, Suppe, Grofe, Handel, Rossini, Shostakovich and more. There will also be small ensembles playing music of many different eras and styles.

Also enjoy the beauty of Meerkerk Gardens --- a perfect combination of nature, culture and fun.

The Whidbey Island Community Orchestra is open to more advanced, high-school-age musicians, with the conductor’s approval, and to all adults.

There is no audition for adults.

Individual players’ parts can be modified to give musicians of varying levels material that is fun, challenging and exciting.

The aim is for all musicians to sound good as an ensemble in an enjoyable atmosphere.

The Community Orchestra has openings in all sections.

The Whidbey Island Youth Orchestra is open to musicians under age 21 who have the basic musical skills for reading music and who would like to meet, play with and perform with other local young people.

There are openings for all string and wind musicians.

This year there are no auditions or audition fees.
