Auditions set for Whidbey Playhouse wedding comedy-drama

May 22, 2012 · Updated 2:38 PM

The Whidbey Playhouse announces auditions for “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” an audacious comedy-drama by Alan Ball, writer of Academy Award-winning “American Beauty” and HBO series “Six Feet Under” and “True Blood.”

Auditions are set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3 and 7 p.m. Monday, June 4 at the Playhouse, located at 730 SE Midway Blvd., Oak Harbor.

Director Suzanne Maris seeks five women and one man, ages 21 to late 30s. Check the Playhouse website for character descriptions.

Auditions will include cold readings from the script. Perusal scripts are available at the Playhouse office.

The play will run weekends Aug. 2 through 12.

In the play, the bridesmaids escape from the reception and go to a bedroom upstairs. Sisterhood, lost dreams and dark secrets are all explored by the characters while making hilarious observations on life, love, men, marriage and intimacy as seen through the eyes of five very different, yet similar, women.
