Dance cruises take center stage on The Price is Right
When The Price is Right called Dan Branscum to offer his new business addition, Moonlight Dance Cruises, as a prize on the game show, Branscum didn’t believe it.
“You don’t expect them to just call you out of the blue,” said Kathleen Mack, who teaches ballroom dance with Branscum.
His dance cruise business was featured in the long-running game show’s showcase on March 2. Drew Carey is host of the show, having taken over from the legendary Bob Barker in 2007. The Price is Right started in 1956 with host Bill Cullen, according to Wikipedia.
Branscum has taught at Dan’s Classic Ballroom for approximately 5 years and decided to add Moonlight Dance Cruises recently after participating in eight cruises.
On a dance cruise, a group learns and practices dancing together while on a cruise to Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean or other areas.
“You could call it a dance intensive or dance immersion because you go dancing for a week; that’s what you do for a week,” Branscum said, adding that the teachers are highly-qualified and hosts are supplied for single dancers.
The dancing is combined with fine dining and the other fun activities on a cruise, Mack said, adding that it’s a “dancing vacation” because there are also stops at ports for activities like zip-lining.
Dan’s Classic Ballroom is located off Frostad Road in Oak Harbor. Branscum and Mack teach ballroom dancing with a view of Dugualla Bay and mountains in the background.
Ballroom dancing includes approximately 15 dances, ranging from the samba to waltzes.
“We specialize in small groups with a lot of personal attention,” Branscum said, adding that he encourages friendships by going to dinner then dancing as a group.
Moonlight Dance Cruises heads to Alaska in June. For information, visit MoonlightDanceCruises.com or call 360-720-2727.
