Stormy weather, just like Ethel Waters’ 1933 song, couldn’t keep warm-hearted folks from getting together at Thursday evening’s Toys for Tots fundraiser at McBride’s Hallmark in Oak Harbor.

Attendees were greeted by employees in era costumes provided by Kay Williamson, coordinator for the Whidbey Playhouse Costume Annex.

“It was just a lot of good times and good mixing,” said Dottie Morgan.

More than 100 people turned out to take part in games led by DJ Fil Baca, listen to music, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, mix and mingle and contribute to the fundraising event.

Store Manager Dave Coffman came up with the USO theme, which his staff happily embraced.

By the end of the evening, the event collected more than 20 toys. The store will continue its toy drive through December when they will be distributed to needy children by the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
