Island chapter Red Cross is looking for real heroes.
Feb. 10 is the deadline to nominate someone who saved a life for the annual American Red Cross Real Heroes awards
Do you know a hero who has made a difference in our area?
Each year the American Red Cross Islands Chapter honors community members throughout Fidalgo, Whidbey and the San Juan islands who have demonstrated heroism through extraordinary acts of courage.
A hero could be someone who performed life-saving CPR, pulled a person from a burning building, helped at an auto accident, took action in a time of crisis or has made a long-term contribution to the community.
The annual Real Heroes Breakfast is an opportunity for the community to show appreciation and thank these exceptional individuals.
Nominees for the awards in the following categories must live or work in the chapter’s service area or the heroic event must have taken place in one of those locations in 2012.
If someone deserves recognition, but doesn’t fit one of these, send their information anyway — they may be the first in a new category.
Nominations will be accepted for the following categories:
•Medical Response Hero
• Military Support Hero
• Always-on-Duty Hero
• Good Samaritan Hero
• Youth Hero
•Exceptional Fire Rescue Hero
• Lifetime Achievement Hero
Nominations may be submitted using the form attached or found on the chapter’s web site www.redcross.org/islandschapter.
Nomination forms must be received by Feb. 10.
A panel will review the nominations and select a group of Heroes to be honored at the Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast scheduled Thursday, March 21 at the Swinomish Casino and Lodge near Anacortes.
The annual Heroes Breakfast began 15 years ago to recognize those whose actions resulted in saving the lives of others.
It closely aligns with the Red Cross mission: saving lives through prevention, preparedness, and response.
The program honors ordinary people who have performed extraordinary heroic actions within the community.
