Paddle through the Haunted Swamp at the Oak Harbor pool

The John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool will become possessed for a couple of hours Friday night.

The popular swimming pool will become a Haunted Swamp where families man inflatable rafts and paddle their way through a floating haunted house.

“We have some scary surprises as they ride around the pool,” said Bill Walker, executive director for North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. The Haunted Swamp takes place Friday, Oct. 26, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the John Vanderzict Memorial Pool, located at 85 SE Jerome St., Oak Harbor. Cost is $3 per person and $6.75 per family.

The park district is also organizing its first Doggie Costume Contest at the Clover Valley Off Leash Dog Park. The contest takes place Sunday, Oct. 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed pooch.

The Costume Fun Run takes place Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. It begins at the Windjammer Park camping area and ends at Angelo’s Caffe on Pioneer Way in time for trick or treating.
