Oak Harbor Lions Club seeks sponsors for holiday flags
November 24, 2011 · Updated 10:35 AM
On 12 days of the year, including most national holidays as well as Oak Harbor’s Holland Happening days, members of the Oak Harbor Lions Club place more than 320 American flags in front of businesses and along the main arterial roads in Oak Harbor.
On holidays such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day and the upcoming Pearl Harbor Day, the flags are a tribute to the military men and women serving at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, to all the veterans living in Oak Harbor and for the entire community.
If you have a business along these routes and wish to sponsor a flag with a $25 donation for the upcoming year, contact Jim Ryan at 279-2802 or by mail at Oak Harbor Lions Club, P.O. Box 21, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.
The funds raised are returned to the community, less the expense of maintaining the flags, poles and bases, to fund vision and hearing exams, glasses and hearing aids, health screening events, scholarships, medical equipment and support programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, the Help House and more.
