The votes are in and Ziggy Jones is the new Mayor of Whidbey. After several recounts, Big Brothers Big Sisters election officials now certify that Ziggy Jones of Oak Harbor is the winner with 435 votes.
This four-legged mayor vows to make sure kids on Whidbey Island get the support they deserve.
A total of 1,448 votes were cast. The money the candidates raised will be used to match more children with mentors in the community.
The mayor’s first order of business was to announce his cabinet of advisors. Brett Boon, runner-up for mayor, was named attorney general, Pepsi Sipes is canine commissioner, Koa is deputy dog, Cujo was named secretary of agriculture, Brutus the dog is the bark ranger, Biscuit the dog is the barker of the house, Kasey the dog is secretary of steak, Murdock the peacock and Sadie Mae are the judges of good character.
Unfortunately, one of the candidates, Tristan Joiner, passed away during the campaign and will not be able to join the group of elected officers.
