The gifts have been wrapped, the holiday ham has been purchased and the stockings have been hung by the chimney with care. Well, that’s the goal anyway.

With just days left until Christmas, the island is emanating holiday cheer. Coupeville has been successfully greened, Oak Harbor has been visited by Old Saint Nick, the kids have been released from classes and glistening snowflakes and snowmen have been placed along the cities’ busiest streets.

The churches are preparing for their special Christmas Eve candlelight celebrations and Christmas Day community meals. Children are busy rehearsing their lines for their role in the Nativity scene and parents are putting the finishing touches on pageant costumes.

Better start making that list and checking it twice, because it’s now officially crunch time. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and have a safe and happy holiday.
