Ott and Murphy Wines is releasing its newest wine, a red named after a local beach on Whidbey Island.

The Mutiny Bay bluff is also the location of two pigeon guillemot nesting colonies.

A Whidbey winery is using its newest wine to benefit bird research on the island.

Ott and Murphy Wines is having a release party for its newest wine, a red Bordeaux blend named Mutiny Bay, in its tasting room 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30.

For every bottle sold, $1 will go to the Guillemot Research Group, an organization sponsored by Whidbey Audubon Society and the Island County Marine Resources Committee.

The tasting room is located at 204 First St. in Langley.

The pigeon guillemot is a seabird that is considered an indicator species; they echo the overall health of the Salish Sea.

The research group has been monitoring the 25 Whidbey Island pigeon guillemots since 2004, including the colonies that nest in the bluffs of Mutiny Bay.
