Flyers earns silver at American Beer Fest

Flyers Restaurant and Brewery in Oak Harbor won a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival, it said in a prepared release.

Flyers Restaurant and Brewery in Oak Harbor won a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival, it said in a prepared release.

The festival is sponsored by the Brewers Association, a trade group for craft brewers that claims nearly 48,000 members.

Flyers took its medal in the “Special Best Bitter” category for its Spitfire Best Bitter, an English-style, copper-colored beer featuring English malts and American hops, it said.

Spitfire is a specialty beer brewed a few times a year.

Winners were chosen by a panel of 242 judges from among a record 6,647 entries from 1,552 U.S. breweries.
