Whidbey Family Farm Forum unveils brand

Island farmers will be introduced to the new Whidbey Island Grown Brand at the Whidbey Family Farms Forum III on Tuesday, June 30.

The theme is, “Farm Success: Emerging Tools.” Doors to the Coupeville Rec Hall open at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30. The forum is presented by the Whidbey Island Sustainable Agriculture Committee.

In addition to the new Whidbey Island Grown brand, topics of the forum include an update on Island meat processing and commercial kitchens, the Puget Sound Food Network as a resource for farmers, along with an opportunity to discuss current and local farming issues.

“The farm forum is a unique and important opportunity for Whidbey farmers, both new to the industry and from old farming families, to connect with one another and learn from each other,” said committee member and Skagit Farmers Supply representative, David Ridle, in a news release.

Last year’s forum involved over 90 participants including farmers, state and local leaders, and citizens. The Family Farm Forum is an opportunity for farmers to network with each other, learn about current topics, and share what is on their minds about agricultural issues. Grocers, distributors, restaurateurs and citizens interested in local foods are also encouraged to attend.

The event is hosted by the Whidbey Island Conservation District, Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve, Skagit Farmers Supply, The Town of Coupeville, The Northwest Agriculture Business Center, South Whidbey Tilth, WSU Island County Extension and Transition Whidbey.
