"School district awards renovation jobThe Oak Harbor School District has awarded the bid for renovation of the district office to Dawson Construction of Bellingham. The amount of the bid was $1,865,000. The building set for renovation is currently occupied by Alaska Federal Credit Union and is located on Oak Harbor Street across from K-Mart. The school district purchased the 28,000-square-foot building last March as a new location for its administrative offices as well as other programs such as Head Start.Dawson Construction was low bidder from among seven regional firms.Career center offers workshopsThe Whidbey Career Center is offering a series of job-seeking workshops for no fee at its Oak Harbor location. The first is titled Job Skills Identification and is scheduled for Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. (The same workshop will be held at the same times Dec. 27). Other upcoming workshops include Effective Resumes (Dec. 13, 9 a.m. to noon), Interviewing Techniques (Dec. 20, 9 a.m. to noon), Job Market Research (Dec. 14, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.), and Internet Job Search and Resume Posting (Dec. 28, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.).The Whidbey Career Center is located at 31975 SR 20 in Oak Harbor. Call 675-5966.Whidbey General North offers new programStarting Dec. 4, Whidbey General Rehabilitation Services will be expanding its Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD) program to Whidbey General North Rehabilitation Services in Oak Harbor. PFD is a rehabilitation program for individuals with bladder control (urinary incontinence) problems. The program is for anyone, male or female, young and old. The program includes an initial evaluation/assessment of pelvic floor muscle function and medical history, with follow-up treatment utilizing patient education, bladder retraining, diet modification, exercises and use of electromyography (biofeedback). A doctor's order is required. To make an appointment, call 679-1415.Martial arts offered at Dance CenterThe Coupeville Dance Center is offering classes in Aikido and Ninjitsu. Instructor Dale Gillilan is a fourth degree black belt who has trained with U.S. Olympic competitors and founded Utah's oldest Aikido school.Classes will start Jan. 8 and are open to children and adults.
