Coupeville Farmers Market kicks off its market season today. It is the 35th consecutive year for the market, said Peg Tennant, market manager.
The market is held every Saturday through mid October, with the exception of Aug. 10. Markets run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Community Green behind the Coupeville library.
As one of the longest running markets in one of the oldest towns in Washington state, the Coupeville Farmers Market continues to be a reliable source of farm fresh produce, locally made baked goods, soaps, lotions, teas, handmade crafts, unique art, and ready to eat hot food, Tennant said.
Last year the market averaged 49 vendors each week. Tennant said she expects about the same this season.
Many of last year’s vendors have already signed on including 5 Acre Farm, Hot Rock Pizza and Brett’s Breads.
A new bakery, Coyote Bakery will join the market with a naturally leavened sour dough.
5 Acre Farm will be returning with other local farms in June. Two regular vendors, however, passed away during the off season. Pete Pescador from Pescado Farms, passed away in January and Lois Clauson from Nana’s Closet passed away in November.
There will be opportunity for customers and friends to add to the messages of love and support to Pescador’s widow Kathy and his family, Tennant said.

The market is also working on a website, which should be up and running soon, Tennant said.
