Port of Coupeville looks at applicants for economic development grants

January 13, 2013 · Updated 3:01 PM

The Port of Coupeville is seeking grant proposals from nonprofit organizations looking for funding for activities that are consistent with the port’s values of economic opportunity and environmental stewardship.

The application process stems from a change in regulations the commissioners for the Port of Coupeville formalized in 2012. Prior to that, each proposal was given consideration on a case-by-case basis.

The Port of Coupeville has $1,500 budgeted for such grants. Last year, the Port of Coupeville awarded the Penn Cove Water Festival $1,000 and the Whidbey Island Farm Tour received $500.

The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. Information about the grants can be obtained at the port office located at 24 Front Street in Coupeville, by calling 360-678-5020 or by email at executivedirector@portofcoupeville.org.

Applications must be submitted by Feb. 28 and the port commissioners  will make a decision during the public meeting scheduled for March 13.
