New winery is eighth on island
Now home to eight wineries, the area south of Coupeville on Whidbey Island has become a wine destination of its own. The newest of these wineries, Comforts of Whidbey, opened its tasting room doors on Labor Day weekend and is experiencing great success.
The Greenbank Farm will host Comforts of Whidbey at the Oct. 1 First Friday at the Farm Wine and Art Tour event. From 5-8 pm that evening, Carl and Rita Comfort will be at the Greenbank Farm Wine Shop to meet and talk to guests as they sample the varieties available at the Wine Shop and the Galleries.
All the wines from Comforts of Whidbey are estate grown on the 5 acre vineyard off Wilkinson Road between Langley and Clinton. The five varieties include dry and sweet whites and a Pinot Noir rose wine.
The cost to participate in the wine tasting event is $10 per person, and includes the wine tasting both at the Wine Shop and at the Rob Schouten Gallery, Artworks Gallery and Raven Rocks Gallery where appetizers and live music are often awaiting guests.
Several artisan cheeses are sampled at the Greenbank Farm Cheese Shop, and the Whidbey Pies Café will offer a dinner that evening (reservations recommended by calling 678-1288).
For more information on the event call the Greenbank Farm Wine Shop at 360-678-7700 or 222-3151 from south Whidbey, or visit the website at www.greenbankfarm.com.
