Public meeting for P-8 environmental study rescheduled

The Navy has rescheduled public meetings for the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement  or SEIS for the home basing of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft.
The draft SEIS addresses the potential environmental effects of home basing P-8A squadrons at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida and Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
The Navy will host two open house public meetings 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at North Whidbey Middle School, 67 N.E. Izett St., Oak Harbor.
The meetings will be conducted in an open house format with informational displays and materials available for public review. There will be no formal presentations. Navy staff will be present to answer general questions on the proposed action and the EIS.
These meetings were originally scheduled in October, but had to be rescheduled because of the recent government shutdown. To ensure consideration in the final SEIS, comments must be postmarked or received online by Dec. 2 to ensure they become part of the official record.
For those who cannot attend an open house, all informational materials are available on the project website
Comments may also be submitted by mail to: P-8A EIS Project Manager, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic, Attn: Code EV21/CZ, 6506 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23508. All comments will be treated equally and will be used in the preparation of the final SEIS.
Copies of the Draft Supplemental EIS are available for public review at the following libraries: Oak Harbor City Library, 1000 S.E. Regatta Drive, Oak Harbor; Anacortes Public Library, 1220 10th St., Anacortes; La Conner Regional Library, 614 Morris St., La Conner; Coupeville Library, 788 N.W. Alexander St., Coupeville.
